Import the lens flare clips into your Final Cut Pro library.
Place a flare above your footage in the timeline.
In the Effects browser sidebar, click My FCPeffects, then drag the ALFs Companion Plugin onto the flare clip.
Adjust Horizontal.Stretch, Hue and Opacity, and add Flicker or Rays if you like.
In other apps, place the overlay above your footage and use a blending mode such as Screen or Add.
