Overview

The Bokeh Plugin is a Final Cut Pro plugin that adds beautiful bokeh particles, the soft out-of-focus circles of light, to your clips and backgrounds.

Start from one of over 40 presets, then change the shape of the particles, their colors, size, blur and position. Click Generate to randomize where the particles sit for a quick new look.

Choose your own colors, or have the particles change color over their life. Add color blur (chromatic aberration), and blur the clip underneath too if you like.

You can even bring in your own image as a custom particle shape.

How to use

In the Effects browser sidebar, click My FCPeffects, then Bokeh Plugin (show the sidebar if it is hidden).
Drag a preset onto your clip, or select clips and double-click a preset.
Click Generate next to Randomize Positions until you like the layout.
Choose the Shape, Color Mode and colors, and set Scale and Blur.
Copy the look to other clips with Paste Attributes (Shift-Command-V).

Requirements

Heavy use can strain older graphics cards. If Final Cut Pro struggles, turn off background rendering and render manually (Control-Shift-R).

Yes. Choose Custom Shape and add your image to the Custom Shape well in the Inspector.

Can I stack more than one on a clip?

Yes, but do not overdo it, as many copies can overload your graphics card.

Can the background be blurred too?

Yes. Turn on Blur Clip Underneath.

How do I copy the look to other clips?

Copy the clip (Command-C), select the others and press Shift-Command-V to paste the attributes.
