In Final Cut Pro, the included Light Leak Companion Plugin lets you adjust each leak: flop it, add flicker, and change its opacity, scale, saturation, brightness, hue, blur and bloom.

How to use

Import the light leak clips into your Final Cut Pro library.
Place a light leak above your footage in the timeline.
In the Effects browser sidebar, click My FCPeffects, then drag the Light Leak Companion Plugin onto the light leak clip.
Adjust Opacity, Scale, Hue and Brightness in the Inspector, and add Flicker or Bloom if you like.
In other apps, place the overlay above your footage and set a blending mode such as Screen or Add.
