Animated split screen transitions for Final Cut Pro

Overview

Screen Splitter Transitions is a collection of around 100 animated split screen transitions for Final Cut Pro. Drop one between two clips and the incoming and outgoing shots slide into a split screen layout and back out again.

The transitions are organized by layout and by where the incoming and outgoing clips sit. Versions marked C keep the clips centered during the hold, instead of showing an edge.

Many layouts include a Drop Zone window for a third clip, or a text window, so you can add a title or extra footage to the split screen.

Set the hold length, the smoothness of the movement, and the border width and color. The length of the transition sets its speed.

How to use

In the Transitions browser sidebar, click My FCPeffects, then Screen Splitter Transitions (show the sidebar if it is hidden). Skim a thumbnail to preview it.
Drag a transition between two clips. Make it longer for a slower animation.
Select the transition and park the playhead over it.
To fill a Drop Zone, click its well in the Inspector, pick a clip in the browser and click Apply Clip.
Adjust Hold.Length, Movement.Ease, the borders and any text in the Inspector.

FAQ

How do I change the speed?

Make the transition longer for a slower animation, or shorter for a faster one. Hold.Length also changes how long the split screen holds.

What does the C in some names mean?

Centered. The incoming and outgoing clips are centered in their windows during the hold, instead of showing an edge.

Can I add a third clip or a title?

Yes. Many layouts have a Drop Zone window for another clip, and you can turn on text over it.

Can I use a clip from my timeline in a Drop Zone?

Yes. In some versions of Final Cut Pro, make it a compound clip first (Option-G) so it plays instead of freezing.
